INJURIES PROVE FATAL TO WOMAN MRS. GLADYS BAUGHMAN DIES AT OTTUMWA HOSPITAL THURSDAY; VICTIM OF HIT AND RUN TRUCK

The head injuries suffered by Mrs. Gladys Baughman of Ottumwa; when she was struck Wednesday night by a hit and run truck proved fatal at the Ottumwa hospital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The 27 years old woman; wife of William Baughman of 328 E. Main Street; received a skull fracture and scalp wounds in the accident which occurred about 11 p.m. on Federal Highway 63 of the Madison Avenue paving.

Her husband who was in the Baughman car at the time told authorities that the truck which struck his wife carried no lights. It proceeded North without slowing down.

Mrs. Baughman had just left the car a few minutes before and was in the back of the machine and apparently on the paving when the accident occurred.

Chief Wilbourne M. Hicks of the Ottumwa police force said today that no info leading to the identity of the truck driver and was unable to see the license number on the truck. He believed that it was a Chevrolet truck with a stock body.

Coroner John Drake reported this morning that he had not been called on the case and believed that there would be no action taken with regard to the inquest unless the driver of the death machine is apprehended by the authorities.

Besides her husband; Mrs. Baughman is survived by two sons; James Baughman and Bobbie Bennett; both at home, her mother Mrs. Winifred Hankammer, one sister Mrs. Hazel Clause; a brother James Randall, a half sister Martha Hankammer and her grandmother Mrs. Effie Logan; all of Ottumwa.

The body has been removed to the Johnson funeral chapel where final services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. A.D. McClure of the Pentecostal Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
