John Smith was born in Fitzwilliam, NH, the son of Elijah and Agnes (Hodge) Smith. John married, April 9, 1840, Sarah Maria Mavery, the daughter of Rev. Charles and Deborah (Ingalls) Mavery, and a great granddaughter of Dea. Josiah Ingalls of Rindge. John and Sarah resided in Rindge, they had seven children. John died in 1897.
