Mr. Bauer was born and grew up on a farm in rural LaMoille and raised livestock and grew grain all his working life. He was a member of 4-H and won numerous awards and trophies for the Angus cattle he raised. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, LaMoille and the Lutheran Brotherhood and he sang in the church choir. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau Cattlemen's Association, Mendota Elks Lodge 1212 and the Wildlife Federation. He was known for his gift of telling stories from his life and for his sense of humor, which he shared with all.
