Before 1820, ships passenger lists did not have to be kept by ports in the USA. Finding these early (pre-1820) lists is difficult, but these Olive Tree Genealogy passenger lists for ships from Ireland 1803 - 1805 found in British Archives, should be a help to those searching their Irish immigrant ancestors.

The information below is not proven that this Ann & John are indeed parents to this Robert Ralston, my ancestor. Anne's son Robert listed below is 19, my ancestor Robert would be around 22 1/2 at this point. They were not cousins as listed. John Ralston was a Doctor, and Ann Ralston's maiden name was Crawford according to some sources I've discovered. I am still trying to gather information to make it concrete for future Genealogy researchers.

My immigrant ancestor was apparently a widow, Ann RALSTON, who came with her family and two other RALSTON families on the ship Strafford, leaving Londonderry on 14 May 1803, headed for Philadelphia. My ancestors got off the ship at Wilmington, DE, and went to Baltimore, living there for 3-5 years. Family legend says that Ann's husband was named John, that they were cousins, and that her maiden name was RALSTON. It also said that the other RALSTON men were either her brothers or brothers-in-law. If her husband was named John, then the other John would be her brother--and in fact, that is the family that settled in the same community in Armstrong County, PA, with her. The ship list gives her residence as "Co. Tyrone" so I am still trying to find the parish and townland that she and maybe the other two families came from. This is still a theory at this point if my ancestor Robert Ralston; b: 3 Nov 1780 is Ann or Anne Ralston's son. The Robert that is listed on this passenger list that is Seamstress Ann Ralston's son is 19. My Robert Ralston that married Susannah Winland would be approximately 22 ½ years of age. Therefore, the Robert listed on this memorial is not related to the John & Ann Ralston attached.
