Pearl was born on March 13, 1919 to Ernest and Dorothy Penney. She was the second of eight children. She grew up in the Inchkeith, Kennedy and Langbank districts of Sask., as her parents moved from farm to farm. Pearl married Frederick John Voakes. Fred was killed in an unfortunate Army Training excerise in Vernon, B.C. on March 10, 1945, leaving Pearl to raise a young family of three sons and two daughters on her own. The childrens names were Frederick David, John Gary, Wilfred Thomas, Margaret Rose (Peggy) and Amy Elizabeth (Betty). In later years, once the children were grown up, and Pearl was on her own, she met and married Lawrence Doucette, and they settled in Penticton, B.C.. Upon Lawrence's passing, Pearl moved to Calgary, AB. and lived with her mother, Dorothy Penney. Pearl ended up having a stroke and was moved to Regina, Sask. She never fully recovered from the stroke and ended up passing away in Regina, Sask.in 1997.
