Mrs. Mariah Brown, age 77, died at her home in Swayzee, Sunday. She had been seriously ill for the past two weeks.
The daughter of Joe and Martha Miller Smith, she was born November 24, 1875 in Green township, Grant county, and spent her entire life in the Swayzee community. She had been a resident of Swayzee for the past 48 years.
She was united in marriage to Washington Brown, who died in 1947. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Normal Church of Christ.
Survivors include six daughters; Mrs. William Phillips of Kokomo, Mrs. Joe Benedit of Pontiac, Mich., Mrs. Earl Hunter of Keystone, Ind., Miss Belle Brown of Marion, Mrs. John Hendren of Swayzee, Mrs. Jack Heck of Greentown; one son, Ernest Brown of Saginaw, Mich.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Pearl Marshall of Sims.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at Rybolt Funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Boyer officiating. Burial will be at Thrailkill Cemetery.
