Norman, OK-Barbara Jean Addington, 56, of Norman, passed away March 9, 2012. Barbara's life was celebrated with private family services. Arrangments are by Primrose Funeral Service. Barbara was born Feb. 9, 1956, in San Diego, Calif., to Samuel and Jacqueline Carter. Barbara grew up on a ranch in Quartz Hill, Calif. She's the first born of five children. After graduating high school she traveled to Hawaii to see friends. While at a trip to the bowling alley she met a man named David Addington who was in the Navy. On Feb. 27, 1978, Barbara married Dave, with whom she shared 34 wonderful years of marriage. The Addington's were members of Lion Lamb Ministries. Barbara entered the U.S. Air Force in 1981. She and Dave were both assigned to Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska in the winter of 1982. In February of 1983 they were reassigned to F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming. Barbara worked in the Missile Wing Code Division and obtained the rank of technical sergeant in 1989. She was honorably discharged in November 1991 with 11 years of active duty. Barbara then joined the Air National Guard in Cheyenne, Wyo., and was assigned to a C130 MASH Unit as a Med Tech. She was EMT certified in 1992 and in 1994 completed her A.S. to become a registered nurse. In September 1994 she transferred to the U.S. Navy and was assigned as a corpsman serving a Marine Unit at Camp Pendleton, Calif. In August 2002 Barbara left her distinguished military career. Skilled in many things, Barbara did bead work, panned for gold, and was an auto mechanic of sorts pulling an engine from a truck. She took a gunsmith class, and took up archery as well. Dave and Barbara and their horses journeyed to Norman where they made their home in 2006. She continued her work as a nurse at various hospitals around the Oklahoma City metro area. Shortly before Barbara's death her 40-year-old horse, Patches, that she'd had for 30 years, passed away. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents. She's survived by her husband David of the home; sisters Laura, Donna and Sue; and brother, Sam.
