Mike Wessel was active politically as a Democrat, and also active in the real estate business as was his brother, Norman. He served as a member of the Camden Board of Education, and became the first manager of of Westfield Acres, the very first public housing project in Camden, and one of the first in the nation. During the middle and late 1930's, Mike Wessel developed procedures and policies at Westfield Acres that caused the Acres to be regarded by those who lived there as a wonderful place well into the 1960's. Mike died on February 18, 1943 and was survived by his wife, Mary, and a daughter.
