Darrell L. "Red" Achtzehn, 71, of Madison, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va. He was born July 21, 1933, in Madison, a son of the late William and Grace Leasure Achtzehn. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Beckwith Machinery Co. in Murrysville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Madison Downtown United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Madison Volunteer Fire Department, with 52 years of service. He was also a member of American Legion Post 401, of West Newton, and the Over 50 Group, of Big Bear Lake, W.Va. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine Bozym Achtzehn. Surviving are his wife, Dolores Corso Achtzehn; two sons, Darren Achtzehn and his wife, Cindy, of Madison, and Dennis Achtzehn and his wife, Roxanne, of New Stanton; two stepsons, James Riddle, of Madison, and Eric Riddle and his wife, Mary, of Erie; a daughter, Noreen Kite, of Yukon; and five grandchildren. Friends will be received at the BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Rev. Michael E. Long, assisted by the Rev. Robert Moffat. Interment will follow in Madison Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Madison Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 232, Madison, PA 15663
