Services have been set for Alvin T. Coffey, 78, of Monroe, who died at 8:55 p.m. Thursday at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo. He had been ill for 20 years.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 today and from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Rupp Funeral Home, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Von Loop, pastor of Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
Born March 21, 1927, in Thorn Hill, Tenn., he was the son of Carter J. (Jack) and Mary Ann "Dutch" (Turner). He married Ethel Davidson July 6, 1948, in Thorn Hill.
Mr. Coffey worked for Consolidated Paper Company in Monroe from 1948 to 1978.
He served in the Army during WW2 from December 1945 until November 1947. He attained the rank of sergeant.
He was a member of Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church and a life member of Monroe Post 1138 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Larry A. of Monroe and Boyd M. (Susan) of Temperance; a daughter, Brenda L. (Richard) Cunningham of Monroe; a sister, Eva England of Tazewell, Tenn., and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother Hayden, and three sisters, Edith Coffey, Edna Hill and Agnes Dalton.
Memorials may be made to Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
