Pvt. Abraham Preble served in Capt. Aaron Potter's Company, in Lieut. Col. E. Cutter's Regiment from Sept 13 to Sept 28, 1814. This regiment was raised in Whitefield. Pvt. Preble was one of dozens of Whitefield men who volunteered.

According to Henry Cook Waters' research notes, Benjamin King sold part of his 320 acres to Abraham Preble (1784-1863) about 1811 when Abraham married Mary "Polly" Hatch from Pittston. They proceeded to build a house and barns and raised their family of three daughters, Nancy, Lorenda and Sabra; and two sons, Abraham and Davis.

A family genealogy shows that, besides 3 children who died in infancy, 5 other children were born (no death dates or burials in the family cemetery): Olive C. in 1812; Galen O. in 1815; Austin D. in 1817; Sabra A. in 1829; and Paul E. in 1831.
