Earl R. Berghefer, 93, of Mason City, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the Heritage Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Faith Baptist Church, 1807 South Kentucky, with Rev. Miles Grismore officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the church service. Interment will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Faith Baptist Church.

Earl was born March 19, 1919, the son of Carl E. and Eppie (Mienders) Berghefer. He graduated from Latimer High School. On July 5, 1936, Earl accepted Christ as his Savior. In April of 1941, Earl married Avis Jewell in Sheffield, IA. He was a lifelong farmer until his retirement in 1982. Earl was a member of Faith Baptist Church, where he enjoyed volunteering his time. He also enjoyed farming, woodworking, fixing old TV's, and "keeping busy".

Earl is survived by his children: Richard Berghefer and wife Sharon of Illinois City, IL, Jean Knapic of Prescott Valley, AZ, and Janis Carmody and husband Mike of Fort Dodge, IA; 9 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1982; his parents; a daughter in infancy; and one grandson.
