She died in 1881, leaving three children: Clark, Minnie and Olivia; Bertie died aged thirteen months. He then married Martha Jane Stroup on June 29, 1882. After living a few years elsewhere George settled on his father's old homestead. He bought out the heirs, eventually owning 135 acres just outside of Clyde. He engaged in general farming and stock-raising, and in later years he also devoted considerable attention to fruit. He built an excellent barn and his improvements are among the best in the township. In politics George was a Democrat.
