Martha Allen Bartlett of 1038 U.S. 231 North, Hartford, passed away Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at her home. She was born in Ohio County to the late Eugene Lowe Allen and Willie Irene Bennett Allen. She worked at Medusa Aggregates Co. in Hartford and was formerly a teller and bookkeeper at Citizens Bank in Hartford for 25 years. She was a lifelong member of Hartford Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was a member of the Woman's Club of Hartford, Daughters of the American Revolution and Mayflower Descendants of Kentucky. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Gregory Allen Moore, on July 21, 2001; two brothers, Billy W. Allen and Gerald B. Allen; and a sister, Anna Sue Allen Bristow.
Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Lawrence D. Bartlett of Hartford; a son, Clarence Dudley Bartlett of Hartford; two daughters, Sandra Bartlett Hendrick (Neal) of Chesterfield, Mo., and Judith Bartlett Moore of Hartford; two grandchildren, Robert Scott Moore of Jeffersonville, Ind., and Rebecca Moore Doss of Hartford; two great-grandsons, Michael Shane Doss of Hartford and Zachary Freeman Moore of Michigan; and a sister, Leta Allen Sheffield (Charles) of Beaver Dam.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home, with Brother Terry L. Peer officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hartford Christian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 105, Hartford, KY 42347.
