Thugs Beat & Rob Two Elderly Men
Sunday evening, between 5 and 6 p.m., three or four thugs entered the home of Roy Lovelace on the Southside and beat him up and robbed him of about $7. They also took a radio and a .22 caliber pistol from the Lovelace home.
An hour later two thugs rapped on the door of Helmer Olson, who lives south of the Stirewalt Boarding house, and when Olson answered the door one thug struck him int he face and knocked him down, and he was robbed of about $20.
Roy Lovelace is 88 years of age. He came to this area when he was 17 years of age and his step-father Horace Sumner had a stage line from Steamboat Landing to Graceland to Bemidji before the railroad. He had difficulty in walking, but he boldly grappled with his assailants, and was kicked severely in the ribs, his hands stepped on, and his face battered black and blue.
