Joel Frydman was the first to go. Taken by the Nazis from the Glinice Ghetto in Poland, his family was under the impression that he had been take to a work camp. It was only years later, when his daughter Dina, the lone surviving member of his family arrived at Auschwitz did she learn that Joel had died within months of arriving at Auschwitz. With a bad heart and being separated from his family, his chances of suriving the horrors of the concentration camp had been slim. A letter which exists in the Museum at Auschwitz describs Joel's arrival on June 6, 1942 and that he has ceased to exist by June 25, 1942 at 42 years old.

Joel was the husband of Temcia and father to Nadja, Dinale and Abek. Dinale's daughter Tema Merback wrote the book "In the Face of EviL" about Dinale's survival and the loss of her entire family.
