Ada Blanche Wrigley Schreiner ("Blanny" to her friends) went home to be with God on December 2, 2010. Born April 19, 1923 in Chicago, IL, the eldest child of Philip Knight Wrigley and Helen Atwater Wrigley, Blanny's early years were spent in various places including Chicago, IL, Lake Geneva, WI, Avalon, CA, and Phoenix, AZ. After attending the Chicago Latin School for Girls, Blanny finished high school at the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY. She completed her freshman year of college at Vassar in Poughkeepsie, NY, but her studies there were disrupted by the onset of WWII. Already a licensed pilot, Blanny aided the war effort by shuttling Stearman biplanes to Greater Lakes Naval Air Station and later serving as a driver for the Red Cross motor pool. Blanny's achievements are legion: loving daughter, sister, mother, spouse, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend; ardent patriot; faithful Christian; skilled equestrian, markswoman, rancher, and pilot; author, poet, world traveler, and adventurer; champion Irish Wolfhound trainer; philanthropist; and cherished Child of God. Her enigmatic personality defied precise description, for, while she was unquestionably kind, compassionate, generous, and humble, she also had an untamable free spirit and could and did "call them as she saw them." Preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and spouse. Though heartbroken at her passing, we are grateful for the time we had with her and feel blessed to know her. We are also grateful to all who so freely gave of their time to care for and comfort Blanny and to help preserve her dignity as she completed her earthly journey.
