Samuel Preston Hamilton was born December 2, 1872 in Cass County, Texas , the son of James Thomas and Melissa Higgins Hamilton. He married Mary Ellen Simmons, the daughter of Thomas Washington and Delilah Peebles Simmons on January 6, 1894. They had the following children: Lora Anne, James Emmett, Samuel Dewey, and Susie Ineva.

Samuel Preston was ordained Minister of the Missionary Baptist Church at the New Colony Baptist Church on August 29, 1909. He pastored his home church and the Center Grove Baptist Church. Other churches he pastored included the Huffiness, Mill Creek, Bethlehem, Forest Hill, Antioch, & Zion Hill. He united in marriage many Cass County residents from 1910 to 1946.

On December 8, 1893, one month before Press & Molly married, James Thomas Hamilton gave a deed to 100 acres of land in the Charles Graham Survey, Center Grove Community, "for love and affection I bear for my son Samuel P. Hamilton." This is the land upon which they built their home and together with additional adjoining tracts purchased from time to time, comprised their homestead.

Rev. Samuel Preston Hamilton died March 5, 1948 in Texarkana Hospital, Texarkana, Texas.
