Timothy lost his life in service to his country. While serving as a Customs Inspector at the Ysleta Port of Entry in El Paso, he susained critical injuries while being dragged by automobile driven by a drug runner. He died from those injuries the next day. He left his widow Dedra and two children, Chastity and Brandt.
In 1996 the Timothy C McCaghren Customs Administration Building at the Ysleta Port of Entry in El Paso, Texas was named in his memory by an act of congress and the signature of Presdent Clinton.
