Opha came to Montana as a teacher. She married Wilton Buffington and they had five children: Edith (Curdy), Loriene (Mrs. Barnard Murnion), Kester and Robert "Bob" Buffington. An infant daughter passed at birth and is buried on the home place northwest of Jordan.

Opha and Wilton divorced, and both remarried in the ensuing years. Opha married Oliver Barnes and they had a son they named Myron. Wilton married Agnes Leedy in both their later years. They had no children together.

Opha battled depression when the medical profession knew little about treating it. She passed away in the State Hospital in Warm Springs, Montana. She is buried at the Butte Creek Cemetery in the Brusett Community, Garfield County, Montana.

Her sister-in-law, Katie Mahoney Buffington, was very fond of Opha and often spoke with sadness of her illness. She was a bright and vibrant young woman and mother who had much in common with Katie during their homestead years as wives of the two Buffington brothers - Fay and Wilton "Fuzzy."
