Bill Sassmann
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Davidson-Duff Funeral Home for William A. "Bill" Sassmann, 94, who died Saturday at his home, 1835 N. Tyler.
He was born Aug. 27, 1882, at Woollam, Mo., and lived in Topeka 62 years. He was a member of Seaman Congregational United Church of Christ.
He formerly worked for Santa Fe Railway and had been a farmer in the Meriden community eight years. He was employed by Shawnee County before he retired in 1954.
He was married to Mamie Brown May 16, 1907 in Missouri. She survives. A son, Clifford Sassmann, died June 15, 1961.
Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Sylvia Wilkins, Prairie Village, and Mrs. Merrion Koons, Norwood, Mo.; a brother, George Sassmann, Owensville, Mo.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Sassmann will lie in state at the funeral home from 2 p.m. Monday until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday after which the casket will remain closed.
