Abia was the son of Abia Luther SR and his wife Prudence Peck of MA and RI.
The Luther family, originally from Germany had settled along the NE coast(via England)by the early 1600s; probably some of the many refugees fleeing Catholic persecution in Europe at the time who came to America.
Abia married Martha Smith of RI in 1758. Her family too were early settlers in the New England colony.
They had two known children, Joshua and Squire.
Abia and his wife came to Otsego county sometime after 1804 when he was close to 70 years old; probably joining his sons Joshua and Squire and their families who had settled in Otsego county by 1800. He is listed in Hartwick, NY in the 1810 and 1820 census records.
He died when he was 90 years old in 1826.
