Joanna was the fifth and youngest child born to James Holladay Durney and Sarah Ellison Sutton. She was born Aug. 31, 1867 in Richmond, Cache County, Utah.
She married John Charles Whitehead in Franklin, Franklin County, Idaho Jan. 28, 1885. She was eighteen years old, and after having their first child in Richmond, she lived the rest of her married life on the farm in Franklin where her other seven children were born and raised.
She died in Preston, Franklin County, Idaho Jan. 10, 1929 and was buried in Franklin Jan. 13, 1929. She was 62 years of age. Her youngest child was then 27, so her family was raised.
