Born in 1849, the first of two children between Henry Switzer Van Fleet and Jane Mussen. His full sister Lucy Jane Van Fleet Maguire died in 1935 and is buried in Hunterdon County, NJ. His father Henry lived until 99 years of age, and died in Yonkers, NY. His mother Jane Mussen has proven very elusive. It appears that she and Henry divorced some time in the latter 1850's. I thought she had passed away with the birth of Lucy, but some other information speaks to otherwise. I have made a memorial for his mother and have linked him to it, as the research continues.
His father Henry remarried Esther Flandreau Van Fleet, and provided Henry Munsen with 8 half brothers and sisters:
