Gilbert was the son of Nellie Bissegger and Peter A. Petersen. He was born in Garfield, Utah. He grew up in Cache Valley.
Gilbert was a veteran of World War II. He was also a building contractor in the Cache Valley area.
Gilbert died at Logan LDS Hospital from injuries received in a head-on collision which occurred on March 3, 1956, in Sardine Canyon. (I remember as a child, I attended the funeral.with my Dad. We were all so stunned. )
