William Arthur Goldsmith was born near Footville, in Rock county, Wisconsin, March 22, 1853, and died at Athol, Kansas, April 29, 1914, aged 61 years, 1 month and 7 days. He was the second son of Caleb and Margaret Debron Goldsmith. In 1874 he was married to Ella Hetrick, who died soon after the birth of their son, Clinton Arthur. December 25, 1884 he was married to R. Lida Clark, who preceded him into the heavenly rest last May. To them were born five children, Willis Laiten, Edna, twin daughters, Azel and Athol, and Helen Natalie. The twin daughters died in infancy. The remaining children are all well known in the community, and were all at the bedside when he passed away. He came to Kansas in February, 1886 and his home has been near Athol ever since.
