Ray Abbott, 83, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday April 1, 2012 at his home in Casa Grande, Arizona. He was born May 2, 1928, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Frank and Ida Berger Abbott.
On June 15th 1945 was united in marriage to Kathleen Lewis in Ottumwa, Iowa, after the wedding he picked his wife up and put her in a wheel borrow, and down a hill on main street they went. They moved from Ottumwa to Des Moines for a short time. They then moved to Denver, Colorado and later to Arvada, Colorado. In 1984, they moved to Kathleen's great grandparents' farm near Beacon. Ray was self-employed as a General Contractor for approximately fifty years before retiring. On January 6, 2011, Kathleen died, shortly after that time Ray sold the farm and moved to Casa Grande, ARizona.
His family includes, two sons and their wives, Ray and Wanda Abbott of Thornton, Co. and their children Daniel Abbott, Lisa Melies, Cynthia Stec all in Colorado; two great grandchildren in Colorado. Son, Dwaine and Amanda Abbott of Flagstaff, AZ. and children, Andy Abbott, Stacy Krizman, Tina Downey, in Colorado. Crystal Abbott, in Arizona. Dewey Jr. Abbott, in Arizona; five great grandchildren in Colorado; and a brother Russell Abbott of Des Moines.
In addition to his wife, Ray was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, and two sisters.
Graveside Funeral services and burial will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 11 am in the Beacon Cemetery near Beacon, Iowa. A procession will form at the Bates Funeral Chapel at 10:25 Wednesday morning for those wishing to go to the cemetery. Visitation will begin in the Bates Funeral Chapel after 12 noon on Tuesday and the family will be there from 5-7 Tuesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
