Mr. James Brantley Austin, age 88, of 440 Smith Street, Albemarle, NC, passed away on Wednesday, April 4th, 2012 at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle, NC.

His family will receive friends from 6 PM to 8 PM on Friday evening at Stanly Funeral Home and his funeral will be on Saturday, April 7th, 2012 in Stanly Funeral Home's Chapel at 2 PM. Ronald Harris and Rev. Jimmy Caines will officiate and burial will be in Stanly Gardens of Memory with full military graveside rites conducted by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team.

Born July 25th, 1923 in Stanly County, NC, Mr. Austin was the son of the late Rufus Austin and Hannah Hatley Austin.

He was a retired employee of NC Department of Transportation and a member of Plyler Baptist Church in Albemarle, NC. He was a Veteran of the US Army and served during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Erlene Hatley Austin; one daughter, Diane A. Harris and husband Ronald S.; and one grandchild, Jonathan R. Harris of Albemarle, NC.
