Juanita was born March 25, 1918, in Jasper County, a daughter of Thomas Albert and Nora Eubank Earnest. She married Rev. Earl W. Dickey Dec. 26, 1941.
Juanita married the Rev. Earl W. Dickey. He survives.
Juanita began her teaching career in the one-room schoolhouses of Jasper County. She completed her teaching degree at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She went on to teach homebound students in Murphysboro. She later taught at Central School in Fairview Heights and at Whittington and Ewing Schools in Franklin County until her retirement. She was a member of Falmouth United Methodist Church. She served the Southern Illinois United Methodist Conference as a trainer for Sunday school teachers by conducting lab schools in churches in southern Illinois and beyond and as a director in the youth camping program at Little Grassy Lake. She enjoyed weaving on the loom built by her grandfather. One of her passions was quilting, with two of her quilts selected to hang in the Mitchell Art Museum, in Mount Vernon. She taught others to quilt at community colleges in Mount Carmel and Olney, as well as conducting quilting classes in her home in Newton. She also was an avid genealogist, researching several branches of her family. She enjoyed going to the Senior Citizen Centers, in Newton and Carbondale. She and Earl volunteered for several years at the Visitors' Center at Giant City State Park.
