Juanita Anne Dickey, age 94, of Carbondale, formerly of Newton, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital, Carbondale. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Saturday, at Falmouth United Methodist Church, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday at Crain Funeral Home, Newton. Burial will be in Brooks Cemetery, rural Newton. Memorial gifts for Juanita may be made to Falmouth United Methodist Church. 
Juanita was born March 25, 1918, in Jasper County, a daughter of Thomas Albert and Nora Eubank Earnest. She married Rev. Earl W. Dickey Dec. 26, 1941.
Juanita married the Rev. Earl W. Dickey. He survives.
Juanita began her teaching career in the one-room schoolhouses of Jasper County. She completed her teaching degree at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She went on to teach homebound students in Murphysboro. She later taught at Central School in Fairview Heights and at Whittington and Ewing Schools in Franklin County until her retirement. She was a member of Falmouth United Methodist Church. She served the Southern Illinois United Methodist Conference as a trainer for Sunday school teachers by conducting lab schools in churches in southern Illinois and beyond and as a director in the youth camping program at Little Grassy Lake. She enjoyed weaving on the loom built by her grandfather. One of her passions was quilting, with two of her quilts selected to hang in the Mitchell Art Museum, in Mount Vernon. She taught others to quilt at community colleges in Mount Carmel and Olney, as well as conducting quilting classes in her home in Newton. She also was an avid genealogist, researching several branches of her family. She enjoyed going to the Senior Citizen Centers, in Newton and Carbondale. She and Earl volunteered for several years at the Visitors' Center at Giant City State Park. She was an artistic, creative, energetic and loving wife and helpmate, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be greatly missed!
Surviving are her husband; daughters, Jean (Peter) Wories and Sue Dickey; a son, Lee (Dana) Dickey; six grandchildren; Kevin (Rosemary) McCamish, Megan (Chad) Harmon, Rebecca (Steve) Renfroe; Adam Wories and Rahelle (Brandon) Ridgeway and ten great-granddchildren, Kaleb McCamish, Colby Harmon, Corbin Harmon, Paige McCamish, Mikenzie Minnick, John Stephen McCamish, Wiley Renfroe, Annalee Renfroe, Ryliegh Ridgeway and Ty Ridgeway.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ether Earnest; brother, Victor Earnest; a sister-in-law, Lois Earnest and two infant daughters.
