Rupert Errol Halsted, age 52, of Russellville, departed this life, Monday, April 2, 2012, near Harriman, Roane County, Tennessee. He was born February 14, 1960 at Harrison, Boone County, Arkansas to Rupert W. Halsted and Sharon Loftin Sanders.

Rupert loved the Lord; speaking of Him frequently and how the Lord was directing his life; he was involved in a prison and jail Ministry; he was of the Christian faith and a foster parent for many young children. Rupert was an over the road truck driver; he had thousand and thousands of miles under his feet. Even though he had driven for over 30 years; the 18 wheeler claimed his life in a jack knife-roll over. He loved to cook; in his younger years, he dreamed of becoming a chef. On major holidays, he was responsible for making the dressing and a Banana Split Cake that was to die for. He entered the US Army at 17 years of age; served as Spec 4, helicopter repairman. He was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association; he loved riding his motorcycle and turning wrenches.

He was preceded in death by his father; his paternal grandparents, George Mack and Tamer Estalee Western Halsted; his maternal grandparents, James and Dottie Bell Blair Loftin.

Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Connie; three sons and one daughter in-law, Joshua Halsted of Tempe, Arizona, Jason and Tiffany Halsted of Vilonia, Arkansas, and Cody Halsted of the home; one daughter Sarah Halsted of Russellville; one grandson, Collin Halsted; his mother Sharon and her husband Gene Sanders of Pottsville; two brothers and sisters in-law; Lionel Halsted of Pottsville and Earl W. and Sonya Halsted of Arizona; one sister and brother in-law, Vanessa and Rhett Beckman of Arizona; numerous nephews, nieces and other family and friends will dearly miss him.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 5, 2012 at the funeral home. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, April 6, 2012 at the River of Life Church in Dover, officiated by Pastor Lance Pendergraft and Pastor Mary Ledford. Burial will be private in Witts Springs Cemetery in Searcy County, under the direction of Broussard Funeral Home of Russellville.

Rupert liked humor; He would have laughed, so hard, at the hand made casket he was buried in, that fit his personality to a T. On the day of his funeral, there were two burials in the same cemetery both from Pope County, Arkansas. When Rupert's family arrived at the cemetery, there was a tent, chairs, and a nice vault sitting over his grave. The family was flabbergasted; needless to say. The vault had the remains of the other body waiting to be lowered into Rupert's grave. Then, both families had to wait for several hours before the truck returned to move the other body to the proper grave. Only, if he knew, he would be on the ground laughing until this day. Luckily, it was a nice Spring day with perfect weather.
