Dorothy Jean Parish McCoy, age 81 of Jackson, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Maplewood Health Care Center, after a long battle with cancer.

She was born August 9, 1930 to the parents of Ernest and Elizabeth Parish, and graduated from Jackson High School in 1948.

On June 30, 1950, she married the love of her life, Robert A. "Bob" McCoy. They raised three children, and dedicated their lives to working with children and youth in the community. Jean had great compassion for children, and spent her entire career serving them. She began this journey by helping start a preschool program at Lambuth Memorial United Methodist Church, serving as director and teacher. She then served as head teacher for the Salvation Army Preschool Center. She spent the last fifteen years of her career working as the administrator of the West TN Cerebral Palsy Center of Jackson. Her love for these special children and their families encompassed her every being.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother-in-law, John McCoy and daughter-in-law, Jan McCoy.

A celebration of her life will be held at Lambuth Memorial United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 5th at 1 p.m., with her nephew, Jonathan Jordan and her pastor, Dr. Gary Morse, officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Arrington Funeral Home Wednesday, April 4th from 4 - 7 p.m., and an hour prior to the service at the church.

She requested that memorials be sent to Lambuth Memorial UMC, Youth Town, or RIFA.

The family would like to thank their extended family at Jackson Oaks, who loved and cared for Jean the past two years, and her dear friends who stayed by her side for a lifetime. She loved you all dearly.
