Son of William Akers and Elizabeth Martye Akers. Died in his 72nd year. Married Mary G. Smith 5 Dec. 1780 VA. Father of: Thomas Peter, Rachel, Mary, Elizabeth, Ruth, Susannah "Fanny", John Smith, Samuel, William, Henry William Akers.

Simon Akers moved to Greenbrier Co., Va; later, between 1795 and 1804, to Ohio, with a large family of boys and girls, where he died. Some of his family moved afterwards to Ky., to a town on the Ohio river.

Thomas Peter Akers, the son of a William Akers, of North Ohio, b. in 1826, was probably a grandson of Simon Akers.
He says that his father moved to Ky. and died shortly afterwards, when he himself was taken back to Ohio and lost the family connection.
He was President of a college in Greensburg, Ky., in 1849; later a partner with Col. Henry Windsor at Lexington, Ky. Then he went to Congress. During the war he was President of the Gold Board, N. Y. City; moved to Colorado and died there.

John I. Smith produced proof to the satisfaction of the Court that Mary Akers relinquished her right to administer the estate of Simon Ackers, her deceased husband, in favor of said Smith.

William, Samuel, and Thomas Akers, Oliver Cutty and Elizabeth his wife, formerly Akers, Wm. McVey and Rachel his wife, formerly Akers, Christopher Vandeventer and Mary his wife, formerly Akers, John J. Smith and Ruth his wife, formerly Akers, heirs of Simon Akers, dec'd., allege that they together with Susan Murdock, formerly Akers, wife of James Murdock, are all the heirs of Simon Akers, dec'd.
Decedent died seized of 200 acres, a part of Clark's Survey No. 2896 and Smith's Survey No. 2301. Their ancestor, Simon, who was of great age and senile, signed a paper on July 8, 1828 purporting to be a deed for the land to James and Susannah Murdock, through fraud in defendants' part. Said Simon is now deceased. Record 4 Page 89

Land was acquired from the Hartman family for a burial ground near the village. The farm had been settled by Simon Akers and contained his grave - Simon Akers 1756-8/11/1828, and that of his wife, Mary 1752-10/1828. They were victims of the bloody flux epidemic, so prevalent at the time.
