At the home at Udall, Cowley county, on April 3-, 1899, Henry Philip Pontius, aged 69 years and 19 days. The body accompanied by his widow, Mrs. Julia B. Pontius, and their only son,, Henry Manuel Pontius, was brought to Nortonville for interment. The funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian church Tuesday, May 2, at 10 a.m. by the Rev. C. M. Cantrall. Mr. Pontius was formerly a resident of Nortonville, being one of the old settlers, having come to Kansas in October, 1868. He was a straightforward business man, having large land interests in this vicinity., He leaves a widow, one son, two brothers and two sisters to mourn their loss. They have the sincere sympathy of the whole community.
Mr. Pontius was born in Union county, Pa., April 11, 1830, and in early manhood united with the Reformed church. He passed his life a believer in God and put his trust in him who doeth all things well. He died in the faith. "Whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never died." C. M. C.
