Obituary
Mildred Oneida Foster, 93 years young, departed this world on March 31, 2012, to continue her everlasting life with God. She was Mother or Grandma to some but most simply called her Millie. She was born August 7, 1918 in Pottersville, MO, the daughter of Thomas and Halla (Landreth) Smith. She grew up in West Plains, MO, weathering the Great Depression while working as a telephone operator and in a local bank. In 1942 she married Ray Holloway and had two children who she raised in West Plains. After her children left the home, Millie relocated to Kansas City in 1967. She purchased a home in Fairway in 1974 and married Ed Foster the same year. She loved gardening and, in fall, the work of canning the vegetables and fruits of the summer’s labors. A trip to her home always found her busy, sewing, gardening, canning, tending to plants, but rarely just sitting down. She worked at Columbia-Union National Bank and later as a Realtor for the Eugene Brown Company until she retired. Millie was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Prairie Village and participated in the book club, circles and Prime Timers group, in addition to baking the church’s communion bread. We will all miss her “grandma” rolls, deviled eggs and countless batches of homemade cookies, often shared with a glass of milk and a child in her lap. She is survived by her daughter; Rhonda (Fred) Grunwald of Prairie Village, her grand-children, Jillian Le and Kevin Grunwald and four great-grandchildren; Lucas, Jamie, Abraham and Nolie Le. Special to her heart are a group of nephews and nieces, whose visits and phone calls were always appreciated. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, her son, C. Ray Holloway, sisters; Doris Stephens, Darlene Coffee and Louise Cox and brother Dallas Smith. Services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 67th & Roe in Prairie Village on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 11:00 AM with burial in Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations to the Faith Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, 4805 W. 67th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208.
