Mr. George "Bob" Robert Backus, age 70, of Madison, Indiana, formerly of Canaan, entered this life on July 3, 1941 in Jefferson County, Indiana.
He was the loving son of the late, Walter Elvin & Mary Helen Ackerman Backus. He was raised in Canaan and farmed there all of his life.
He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church near Canaan and was a 1960 graduate of Central High School.
He was united in marriage on October 20, 1961 to Joan Elizabeth Loos, the union was blessed with a daughter and two sons.
He was first employed with Ford in Columbus, Indiana and then with Massey Ferguson in Madison as a mechanic. He then began a career with Reliance Electric as a machinist and retired after forty years of service.
He was a farmer all of his life and raised cattle, working with his horses and really enjoyed his equipment until he was forced to retire after suffering a stroke.
Bob was united in marriage to Joyce Kinman Meadows on October 8, 1983 in Carrollton, Kentucky.
Bob had enjoyed riding and caring for his horse "Pam" while growing up. He had enjoyed traveling with his wife, Joyce.
Bob died Sunday, March 25, 2012 at 11:33 a.m. at his home in Madison, Indiana.
