Commissioned a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps, 22 June 1943, after completing pilot training at OCS on the west coast. During WWII he was with the Ninth Air Force, in the European Theater of Operations, piloting the A-20 & A-20G Light Bombers. He flew 65 missions during his tour of duty, of which two were on D-Day.

He received the Distinguised Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 12 Oak Leaf Clusters, and 3 Commendation Medals along with many other medals during his 23 years in the Air Force.

From October of 1956 until July of 1958, he was Commander of the 69th Tactile Missile Squadron, 586th Tactical Missile Group,in Germany. When he was reassigned to the States, he became an Inspector with the USAF Deputy Inspector General. His duties included world-wide inspection of all USAF missile and space activities and functions. After retiring from the Air Force he had a second career in the Logistics Engineering field.
