He was born in 1719 in Co. Down, Ulster, Northern Ireland.
He was only fourteen when his family immigrated to America in about 1733.
James Leeper was about twenty and Margaret McKee was about sixteen when they married in about 1740 in Chester County, Pennsylvania.
They lived in Muddy Creek Forks, Lower Chanceford Township, York County, Pennsylvania when their son was born later that year.
They had four sons and two daughters:
James Leeper (b.1740 d.1826)
Elizabeth Leeper (Amspoker)(b.1743 d.1839) Alexander Leeper (b.1744 d.1804) Mary Leeper (Smith) (b.1746 d.1823) Samuel Leeper (b.1747 d.1805) John Leeper (b.1760 d.1800; this John was born 13 years after Samuel?????)
They had been married about twenty-four years when Margaret died in 1764 (this is the year her father died, and she is listed in his will as living). Their youngest child was only four years old.
He died in August 1795 in York County, Pennsylvania.
James lived to about age 76.
