Bertha Margaret Bigelow was born August 11, 1894 in Willimantic, Piscataquis, Maine to Wilbur M Bigelow and Bertha Ellen (Beede) Bigelow. Bertha was the third child of five children born to the couple, and her siblings included Ethel Mae (b. Sep, 1891), Baby Girl (b. Sep, 1892), Wilber L (b. Jul 1896), and Hattie Hagel (b. Oct 1897). All of the Bigelow children were born in Piscatiquis County, Maine. Only Ethel Mae and Bertha Margaret survived early childhood. The family of four shows up in the 1900 census, but the couple divorced some time before 1904.
Bertha Margaret Bigelow married George Earle Sutherland on December 31, 1914 in Haverhill, New Hampshire. The couple had seven children, including George Earl, Jr (b. ca 1916), Richard Harold (b. Sep 1917), Francis J (b. Mar 1919), Paul George (b. Jun 1920), Mary Ellen (b. ca 1922), William Joseph (b. May 1924), and Eileen Margaret (b. Oct 1925).
Bertha Margaret died on January 3, 1927 in Saugus, Massachusetts, and is buried in Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline, Massachusetts with her husband George and other family members.
After her death, George married Mary (Mae) A. Carroll. The couple had no children. George died August 22, 1957 in Boston, Massachusetts and is buried in Holyhood Cemetery.
