Married to Connie Forrester.

Children: Herman, Sardis, Sollie, Lewis, Juanita, and Mae Doris.

Edna's mother was Mollie May Wingate Roper and she was born on September 25, 1871. Her first husband, Lewis W. Roper died in Duval County, Florida on 4/3/1917. Mollie May remarried to Jermira Kelly in 1924. She died as Mollie May Roper Kelly on March 27, 1948 in Miami, Florida and was buried in Jacksonville, Florida (FAG memorial #99130194).

Edna's father was Lewis William Roper (FAG memorial #138641111) (Note: Edna listed her father's name in her bible as Lewis William Roper but it was later learned that his real name was Lewis Washington Roper). He died in Jacksonville, Florida on 4/3/1917. He had been severally injured as a prison guard on December 30, 1916 while working at the Occuquan Workhouse in Lorton, Va. It had been an attempted prison break by several prisoners (Note: All prisoners were re-captured and the prisoner that injured William was given only 30 extra days in prison!).

He and his immediate family were sent to Florida on March 28, 1917 to possibly help with his recovery. Lewis died a few days later on April 3, 1917. He is believed to be buried in the Old Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Green Cove Springs, Florida although his memorial has yet to be found.

In a family bible that Edna Roper Forrester maintained, she listed her place of birth as Doren, Georgia and I have not been able to find that location. Other sources indicate that she was born in Worth County, Georgia and this is where most of her siblings were born and is likely where she was born.

Edna had three sisters - Leola Juanita Roper Bennett (FAG memorial #120154165) and Ada Roper Deese (FAG memorial #11646376) and Ellen May Roper Bennett (1903-1944... died in Miami-Dade, Florida... FAG memorial #14048464)(Ellen married Oscar Jewel Bennett who was the brother of William Bennett who married Leola Roper... Ellen's sister). Edna also had two brothers named Johnny Mack Roper (Aug. 16, 1900 - Aug. 5, 1983...FAG memorial # 140113570) and Captain Jackson Roper (Sept. 26, 1896 - Aug. 9, 1935). Captain Jackson Roper was married to Leila Mae Harden (born about 1900 in Georgia)is buried in the Nettle Ridge Cemetery in Calhoun County, Florida (FAG memorial #13868336). Johnny Mack Roper was reportedly cremated in Miami-Dade County, Florida and his remains are unknown.

Edna's final home was at 3988 County Road 203, Dothan, Al.

Edna was a woman who greatly loved her family. Unfortunately, she came down with dementia in the last few years of her life and her daughter Juanita took care of her until she passed away.

Edna was buried next to her husband in the Cowarts Baptist Church cemetery in Cowarts, Alabama.

(Info above written by Edna's grandson Richard Sardis Cannon - "she is sorely missed").
