María de Jesús "Sue" Wilson y Yorba was born at Rancho Santa Ana, Alta California, México, where she was baptized at Mission San Gabriel February 28, 1845 (SG Baptism 08742). She was the daughter of Benjamin David Wilson and María Ramona Anselma Marcelina Yorba y Alvarado. María became a citizen of the United States with the transfer of California's sovereignty in 1848. She married James deBarth Shorb on June 4, 1867.
