Alva E. Barnes
Alva Eldon Barnes, 53, Lake Shore Estates, Route 1, Ozawkie, died shortly after arrival at a Topeka hospital Sunday. He apparently had a heart attack.
He was born Aug. 11, 1923, at Sedalia, Mo., where he lived before he moved to Topeka in 1957. He attended schools at Sedalia.
Mr. Barnes was a sergeant in the Army during World War II, having served in the South pacific. He received the Purple Heart medal and other decorations.
He was a carman and welder for Santa Fe Railway where he was employed 20 years. He was a member of Eldorado Campers.
He was married to Lillian Finnell April 12, 1941, at Sedalia, Mo. She survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Jack Barnes, Michael Barnes, and Patrick Barnes, all at home, and Donald Barnes, 730 Wayne; his mother, Mrs. Zelma Barnes, Sedalia, Mo.; and two granddaughters.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct graveside services at Mount Hope Cemetery.
