Carl Farnsworth, 35, of Fryeburg, Maine, formerly of Provo, was killed near Coudersport, Pennsylvania, Sunday when his new, light plane crashed while he was attempting a forced landing. Landing gear of the plane caught on a power line according to the report by investigating officers. A brother, LIncoln, 31, was injured in the crash. His injuries were not critical.
Mr. Farnsworth was an experienced flier, having flown on numerous business trips in all sections of the country. He and his brother were returning from investigating some timberland when the crash occurred. Their brother, Philo T., of Brownfield, Maine, developed the first television tube and founded the Farnsworth Television and Radio Corporation, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Carl was born November 28, 1910 in Beaver, Utah, son of Wilford and Serena Bastian Farnsworth. He attended Brigham Young University and after leaving here worked with his brother, Philo, who also attended the Provo university.
He married Valdis Fowler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Fowler of Lehi, July 15, 1931 in Lehi. Mr. Fowler formerly was Utah county treasurer.
Surviving besides his widow and mother, who resides in San Francisco, are three sons and one daughter, Edwin, Wendell, Ronald, and Carol Ann; two brothers, Philo T. and Lincoln; two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Lindsey and Mrs. Laura Player, San Francisco.
After cremation at Coudersport, Pennsylvania, Burial will take place in the Provo Cemetery.
