B-17G Flying Fortress "Heavenly Body" crashed on a night cross-country exercise on 27 Sep 1944. While turning just North of Nailstone, near Ibstock, the aircraft's nose dropped and the port wing struck the ground.
The machine was completely destroyed by fire and explosion. All on board were killed.
