In 1862 he came to Chilton and worked some time in Jacob Wirth's mercantile establishment. Since severing his connection with Mr. Wirth he has lived principally in the west, buying grain in the Dakotas, holding the position of postmaster at St. Louis, Douglas County for six years and serving on the school board at Superior. He has been ill with rheumatism for three years and when other complications made his condition serious he came to the home of his brother George in this city in February, where he remained until the end came. Though Mr. Breed has not lived continuously in Chilton, he was well known in this vicinity, especially by the older inhabitants. He is survived by one daughter, Miss Hattie, of Fond du Lac, one brother, Geo. D., and two sisters, Mrs. Mary R. Healy of this city and Mrs. Julia Clapper of California.
