Mr. Alan Monday, 80 of Newport departed this life Friday, March 30, 2012 at White River Medical Center in Batesville.

He was born September 15, 1931 in Newport, AR, the son of Cecil Alan Monday and Mary Mildred Foushee Monday.

Mr. Monday was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, member of the Vestry 35 years, Jr. and Sr. Warden, Lion's Club, Masonic Lodge, served on the Newport Water Commission for 30 years, volunteer fireman from January 1, 1955 til December 31, 1996 and served as Assistant Chief, worked at Victor Metal for 25 years, co owner of Wright's Hardware and Guinn and Monday Hardware, served in the U.S. Air Force, collected coins and stamps and loved to spend time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Alan Monday and Mary Mildred Foushee Monday; sister, Elizabeth Jane Monday Alexander; and grandson Brent Ellis Monday.

Mr. Monday is survived by his wife of 57 years Irene Guinn Monday of Newport; son, David and wife Jan Monday of Newport; daughter, Leslie and husband Doug Cockrill of Newport; grandchildren, Eric Cockrill of Tyler, Texas, Maggie and husband Blake Coe of Jonesboro, Laci Cockrill of Newport; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m Monday at the funeral home.
