Former Head of Plating Concern Dies
Willard J. Whitney, 300 Crosby NW, former owner of the Phoenix Plating and Manufacturing Co. in Grand Rapids, died at his home Saturday afternoon. He was 77.
Mr. Whitney was a charter member of the local chapter of the American Society of Electroplaters. He retired in 1950. A lifelong resident of Grand Rapids, he was a nephew of the founder of Whitneyville, 15 miles from Grand Rapids.
Surviving are a son, Chester G. Whitney, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Henry C. Spring Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
