Louise McNear Naffziger

Louise McNear Naffziger, the last of one of Petaluma's most influential families, died in her San Francisco home of heart failure Sunday.

Mrs. Naffziger was a third-generation Petaluman. She was born here on May 28, 1894, the youngest child of George and Ida Belle McNear. She attended boarding school in New York.

In 1919, she married Dr. Howard Naffziger. The couple made their home in San Francisco, where she was active in numerous charitable and educational organizations.

In 1974, she was awarded the Bishop's Cross for her contributions to the Episcopal Church and inducted into the Knights of St. John.

She is survived by a daughter, Jean Louis Thacher. She was the grandmother of 10 and the great-grandmother of 16.

A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco.
