John "Johnny" Robinett was born in Houston Texas, on September 1, 1924. He was the son of John O. Robinett and Vera Leontine Brewer Robinett. His father was originally from Huntsville, Texas and his mother from Clarksville, Texas. Johnny was raised in Houston and graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1942. Immediately after high school John enlisted and served his country in World War II in the 422nd Squadron of the 305 Heavy Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force in England. John was a ball turret gunner in B-17s, was shot down over Germany and interred as a POW. After the war he earned a degree from the University of Texas. While a student in 1949 he married Annette Romano and from this marriage they had a son, Stephen Robinett in 1951. Johnny began working for Shell Oil Company in the Houston area that same year and retired from them in 1984 with over 33 years of service. In the early 1960s John adopted two children of his second wife, Joyce Danner. In the later part of his life he lived in Richmond, Texas, passing away in a local hospital on December 19, 1996. He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters Verna Robinett Adams and Vera Elizabeth Robinett. He was survived by his son Stephen, his widow Joyce D. Robinett, daughter Robin Robinett, son Russ Robinett, and grandchildren Lauren and Jason.
