Obituary

BAKER

James Huston Baker was born in the state of Illinois, February 8, 1852. At the age of thirteen he came with his parents to Iowa, settling in Webster township, Webster county, on what is known as the Baker farm, in 1865. He was married to Miss Nellie G. Tucker March 31, 1872, and they have lived in this neighborhood almost continually ever since, with the exception of a few years spent in Colorado. There were born to this union five children, two having passed away in infancy, the other three are still living in this vicinity and they are Mrs. Frances M. Bell, John Baker and Mrs. Stella H. Bell.

Mr. Baker was converted about thirty years ago while attending a meeting held by the United Brethren in the school house near his home. As time passed he became wayward in his religious duties, but before passing away told his friends who sat at his bedside that the thanked God because he had extended time to him so that he could repent and return to Him who has now accepted him and took away all dread of death, saying, "I want to go. I am ready to go." Mr. Baker died July 9, 1912, aged 60 years, 5 months and one day.

The funeral services were held from the home Thursday forenoon at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. H. Albertson, pastor of the local M. E. church. A large number of friends and relatives were present and paid a parting tribute to their departed friend. The remains were laid to rest in the Vegors cemetery.
