JOHN GARRISON, age 83, of Sutherlin, Oregon, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at the age of 83, in Sutherlin, Oregon.

As a drafting engineer, he worked in the aeronautical space industry until moving his family to Douglas County in 1972. He ranched in Elkhead and, in addition to operating the Oakland Feed Store for a number of years, he also worked as a draftsman for local equipment manufacturers.

He was a talented artist and some of his stone sculptures can still be found in local museums. He was also quite a poet. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed that time with his wife and friends. He was a great provider to his family, as well as a Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his son Jon Jae and the love of his life, Nellie.

He is survived by daughter Janell (Dave Makaipo); sons Michael (Victoria) and Ragen (Janet); and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held at Valley View cemetery at noon on Friday, February 19, 2016, with a celebration of life to follow from 1:30-4 p.m. at Umpqua Golf Resort.
